Profit vs Loss

What you made, what you spent, and where it went — by category.

What is Profit vs Loss?

A month-by-month summary of what your business took in and spent, and what's left over. It's pulled directly from your ledger — every confirmed receipt and expenditure — with expenditures broken down by category so you can see exactly where the money went.

How is the profit or loss figure worked out?

Net profit (or loss) is simply total receipts minus total expenditures for the month — the same cash-in-hand arithmetic as your ledger's own closing balance, just presented as a summary. It's cash-basis, not a formal accounting profit statement: a restock's full cost counts the month you pay for it, not spread out as items are sold later.

What does the category breakdown show?

Every category with a confirmed expenditure that month, sorted from biggest to smallest, so you can see at a glance where most of your spending went. An expenditure with no category shows up as its own "Uncategorized" line. Receipts aren't broken down by category — they never carry one, since there's only ever one Total Receipts figure.

Who can view Profit vs Loss?

Everyone with access to your business — Owner/Admin, Bookkeeper/Accountant, Bursar, and Viewer alike — since it's useful for anyone recording money to know where things stand. There's nothing to edit here; it's entirely computed from your ledger entries.

Can I export it?

Yes — PDF, Excel, or CSV, from the Profit vs Loss page for the month you're viewing, covering every category's spend plus the total receipts, expenditure, and net profit/loss summary.
